I’ve spent a lot of time observing students in bilingual kindergarten and how they are learning to read. Because Spanish is not an opaque language, the sounds and symbols of the language match and make it more easy to learn than opaque languages (English is an opaque language and takes children significantly longer to learn because sounds and symbols do not match up).

The reason I was observing students is that I wanted to see my students with communication disorders in the classroom and see if I could align my therapy sessions with curriculum. I learned that learning to read in Spanish is taught by syllable. I started creating resources that would help my students in speech therapy and align with what they are learning in the classroom too.

Learning the syllables is so important when teaching reading to bilingual kindergarten students. Save yourself the time of making syllable flashcards and buy these! Syllable Flashcards in Spanish – Las Sílabas en Español – Print and Go! Son las sílabas en español para imprimir para los niños en kinder.

COMPREHENSIVE LIST of 100 COMMON HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS or sight words in Spanish (palabras de alta frecuencia).

I know that there is some variability among which words individual teachers use, but in general these are the main ones I have seen. High Frequency Words in Spanish (Palabras de Alta Frecuencia)(Necesitas palabras de alta frecuencia kinder en kindergarten!)

152 PAGES containing the 100 words broken down into groups of twenty for easy progress monitoring. Then they are numbered and further put into groups of 4 for kids to cut out and practice at home.

I made 4 trail games ranging from easy (CV words) to hard (words with five or more letters) for teachers to use in centers or speech paths to use to practice speech sound articulation or language skills.

The following section has each word prominently on one page for teachers to laminate and drill students in small groups.

As a bonus, the last section has each of the question word per page for students to learn the question words and to think about how they look so they can recognize them.

EL y LA Article Agreement

My students make article agreement errors between “el” and “la” so frequently. I created a printable version of this resource to make practicing these words fun and easy for them. I wanted to make a digital version of this popular resource! Help students learn how to use el and la in Spanish.

Contents:

  • 88 Regular El/La Task Cards –> Regular means that “el” words end in “o” and “la” words end in “a”
  • 52 Irregular El/La Task Cards–> Irregular means that the word ends in l/r/e/n/s and a student has to memorize the masculine/feminine article.

Boom Cards in the Bundle:

The other “El” and “La” Article Agreement task cards are printable in this bundle. Then I created Boom cards and they are added here.
