Interview an Elder

Over Thanksgiving break my sister and I had the opportunity to sit down with my mom and her first cousin and interview them about their great-grandparents and grandparents. We anticipated that the interview would be no more than 30 minutes, but we ended up taking three videos with almost two hours worth of footage in total.

What really helped them get talking was a set of great interview questions (see below to get your hands on them), but also having a lots of old photos, which worked like visual aids.

I want to share the list of interview questions with you so you can interview that special person (or people) over your holiday break. You know, my dad passed away unexpectedly in October and I’m sad that I’ll never get to interview him about his childhood in rural Australia. Don’t make the same mistake and grab this free download by entering your email address below:

Thank you so much for your inspiration. Our work is all about storytelling and, all to often, we don’t take the time to really listen to the stories of our older loved ones. I can’t wait to do this myself! Thank you!
