Speech is Beautiful

So you want to be a speech pathologist…

Books· Why Speech?

5 Jul

I receive lots of emails from people curious about speech therapy as a career. The volume of email inquiries seems to be going up and now I’m getting between 5-7 emails per week. I’ve been responding to them personally, though sometimes it took me more than a week, but I’ve realized that I cannot keep doing this.

A short email from me isn’t able to answer all of someone’s questions, especially because a lot of my inquiries are from people looking to change careers. Most people have lots of complex questions about the process. I know a lot about becoming speech-language pathologist because I came into the career after working in the corporate world. I didn’t have an undergrad degree in speech therapy (I have a B.A. in Spanish) so I needed to do research about the prerequisites needed.

So I wrote an eBook: So you want to be a speech pathologist… It’s available for just $5 and it will answer most if not all of your questions about the profession. I cover everything you should know about the profession from disorders SLPs treat, workplace settings, the process I advise to making the right decision for you, tuition, student loans, and location of graduate programs, the downsides of being an SLP and a note about bilingual SLPs. Take a peek at the table of contents:

The only thing the book cannot do is answer graduate program-specific questions. For example, if you need to take a statistics class to get into graduate school. Each graduate school offering speech-language pathology has similar prerequisites, but they do vary so you would need to call each individual program to verify their requirements. You would be surprised how many questions I get like that so if you are in doubt please call the graduate school. Requirements have changed in the 10+ years since I attended graduate school.

I’m happy to share all of my knowledge (honestly, I love giving advice!) about becoming a speech path with you in a format that you can keep and review on your own at any time. Plus, it’s way easier to purchase the ebook and read it than for you to craft a lengthy email to me.

BUY the book to get answers to all of your questions about how to become a speech path. And then let me know what you decide! 🙂
