Speech is Beautiful

Start the School Year Off Right in Speech

Speech Therapy

Do You Use Speech Folders?

Are you a speech folder kind of person?

So I’m a teletherapy person these days, but I have some suggestions for starting the school year in person. First, I would start with the speech folders for each student. My reasoning was that I wanted to have “evidence of learning” for each of my students. With the work in the folder, I would something to share with parents at IEP meetings. I don’t keep everything the students do. But I do keep highlights. Those include work that showed some of the good –and some of the struggles too.

Speech Folder Organization

First, the front of the folder would have a sticker chart stapled to it. Then the inside would contain a discussion about what their speech goals are. But we would start off with an All About You activity that would kick off our year. A lot of you must be like me because my Bilingual All About You download is getting some attention in my store.

Back to School Procedures in the Speech Room

I also go through my speech room rules (digital) and to make them easy to review, use the digital version and review them on your computer. And I like to send home an introduction letter to families in English and Spanish. Lastly, if you do have a space to decorate, why not use my free communication quotes? Just print them out and put them up!

What I Use

Click to below to explore some of the resources I mentioned above (a mixture of free and paid)

  • All About Me (English and Spanish) – in the first weeks have students share about themselves so we can get to know each other. p-a-i-d
  • Digital Speech Room Rules – display on your computer and go through the rules to reinforce behavior expectations for the speech room in the first couple weeks. f-r-e-e
  • Parent Letter (English and Spanish) – introduce yourself to families and give them your contact info. p-a-i-d
  • Communication Quotes – 20+ pages of quotes about communication for you to post in your room as decor! -f-r-e-e

I hope you enjoy those resources as we get going this school year! I know you will have a great year. These are just a taste of what’s available – feel free to explore my store!
